Are there any advances in the food preservation method? Discuss your answers in relation to
technology, packaging and/ or processes used over the last few decades.
There are many advance in dehydration. The advantages have occurred in the areas like technology and packaging. To begin with, dehydration is a very easy process to complete and with the a dehydrator the process has been made easier. Technology has been advanced because of the production of the dehydrator. This has made it easier for the general public to easily dehydrate an foods that they would like so that it would last longer.
A dehydrator can be defined as an appliance that removes moisture from food to aid in its preservation. A food dehydrator uses heat and air flow to reduce the water content of foods. Before dehydrators were made the process of dehydration was made in an oven and when the oven wasn't developed, dehydration was performed outside and used the sun as an oven. An example of a dehydrator is in the image bellow.

The packaging of dehydrated foods has also advanced. Research has been done and has provided a lot of useful knowledge about dehydration and how to package dehydrated foods. When dehydration was first invented or founded it was hard to keep the moisture and bacteria away from the product. The technology around keeping away fungi and any germs hadn't been created yet. As time has gone on, technology has increased and advanced. New equipment has been made and new ideas have changed the production and preservation of food.
Modern day technology that is used to seal away germs and bacteria consist of: plastic freezer containers with tight-fitting lids or in plastic freezer bags. Vacuum packaging has also been available as an option of packaging. Each time a package is open, its is exposed to moisture, air and bacteria. This lowers the quality of the food and may result in spoilage. The following YouTube clip describes another way of packaging dried food. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf2RexcynDE
